The International Merit Scholarship is awarded to students of First Global Community College (FGCC), Nong Khai-Udorn Thani, Thailand.

The Award

The International Merit Scholarship, a certificate and a US$100 prize, is awarded at the end of every semester (Summer, Fall and Winter) to students who have demonstrated notable initiative, curiosity and hard-work during the semester.

We are thrilled to announce that the FGCC Science Department has created the Science Merit Scholarship in Fall 2004. The Science Merit Scholars will receive a certificate and US$50.

The chosen students, the International Merit Scholars and Science Merit Scholars, are not necessarily the students with the highest grades or those who speak flawless English. They are those that come prepared to every class, participate in class discussions and ask questions inside and outside of the classroom. These students are focused on learning as much as possible and work up to their potential.

The Goal

The goal of this scholarship is to reward students who through their own intense efforts have made significant progress to improve their English language skills and expand their general knowledge. It is our hope that the presence of the award will motivate all students to study harder and to show more initiative. The US$50-100 given to the scholars, while not a significant sum of money by western standards, is enough to significantly defray or even cover a (frugal) student's living expenses in Nong Khai for one semester.

How the International Merit Scholarship will be administered

FGCC teachers will meet at the end of each semester under the supervision of the Scholarship Coordinator to select the two students that they feel are the most exceptional, based on the above criteria.

During a small ceremony at the end of each semester the selected students will be awarded an International Merit Scholarship or Science Merit Scholarship certificate and a monetary prize in the amount of US$50 or US$100, which will be provided by the donors.

The founders of the scholarship hope to see more contributions so that additional students can be recognized every semester.
